About Us: Goldie Kosower, born Golda Elster in 1911 in Amstev, Poland, immigrated to Canada at 15. Initially working as a seamstress, she found her calling as a cashier in her uncle’s movie house, where she met her husband, Alter Kosower. Together, they established Harbord Bakery in Toronto in 1945, growing it into a beloved community hub. Goldie and Albert became integral parts of their neighborhood, offering more than just baked goods—they provided support and friendship. Their legacy continues to be celebrated, notably with a laneway dedication in their honor. Special thanks to Councillor Adam Vaughan and his team for making this possible.
