Culture Talks in the Speakers’ Corner: Hostess Ivonete de Sousa (All Day)

Born in Sao Paulo and educated in Brazil and Canada, Ivonete de Sousa is a seasoned professional with over 15 years experience working in funding programs for the film and television industries. She currently works at the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), an agency of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. Her work with the Brazilian community in Toronto has earned her recognition with a “Brazilian Women in Power 2012,” award presented by the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism in Ottawa. In partnership with Jzuntos Media, Ivonete produced a video titled “Celebrating 25 Years of Brazil Canada Immigration” shown at a Gala Awards Ceremony in Toronto in 2012. Entertaining friends is an essential part of her lifestyle. She insists you don’t need to spend a lot of money given the variety of choices out there – you only need a little imagination. Fresh produce from farmers’ market, paired with a baguette, fresh cheese, olives and a good combination of red and white wines sets the tone! Slices of lemon and lime, sparkling water, colourful flowers and napkins please the eye, opens the appetite and the night is a slice of pie! Ivonete is an avid runner, a volley-ball player and she is a positive thinker all the way.
